Food for Life Gold Caterer  Breakfast at Orchard Farmhouse is a special occasion.

Breakfast menu

Featuring wonderful local "Sydling Brook" Soil Association organic eggs, bacon and sausages. Visit the farm and see for yourself!

We offer a menu with entirely organic ingredients for our guests, with produce coming from local sources.  We source biodynamic organic where possible.

Choose from Full English, French, Vegetarian, Brazilian or Dutch.  All ingredients are organic.

If you need a gluten free breakfast please let us know.  We can usually provide this.

Help yourself to cereals, yoghurt and fruit.  Or choose porridge with rapdura sugar - gorgeous and healthy.  Then choose from one of the following:

English breakfast

Normally we serve egg, bacon, sausage, tomato and mushroom.  We are happy to fry, poach or scramble your egg.

Vegetarian

Scrambled egg with tomato and mushroom.  Have some herbs if you wish.

Brazilian

Avocado, creme fraiche and rapadura sugar.  This may sound crazy but it has a beautiful soft, flavour.  With Brazilian we also offer tropical fruits.  (We usually have this option in stock but it helps if you let us know in advance.)

Dutch breakfast (Please book in advance.  Subject to availability)

Breads, ham and cheese.

If you are looking for a Vegan option, please let us know in advance and we will see how we can help. We are not experts on vegan cooking but we are learning and welcome your suggestions.  We also keep soya milk.  We are seeking rice milk but it is currently not available as organically certified.

Organic and Biodynamic

Wherever we can we use local and if possible, biodynamic ingredients too.   The ingredients are usually to organic certification UK5 (Soil Association) or UK6 (Demeter).  The exception is that sometimes the fruit juice is to certification UK15.  Orchard Farmhouse is a certified organic establishment.

We hope to have French breakfast on the menu soon - organic croissants are hard to come by at present.

Soil Association Organic

Source of products

We buy most of our produce from Sydling Brook, which is near Cerne Abbas.  We also use Ceres in Yeovil and, where appropriate, Green Valley Farmshop in Godmanstone.   Where we need to, we back this up with products from Riverford who deliver from their Devon farm or import if absolutely necessary.  We use other local shops and sometimes we use supermarkets where they offer a product not available elsewhere.

Local and seasonal

We try and buy as much local and seasonal food as we can.  Meat comes from Sydling Brook which is only fifteen minutes from us and eggs come either from Sydling or Emlet (Devon).  When possible we offer a fruit salad.  Sometimes this has to have some tinned products and quite often some of the fruit does come from abroad because it includes oranges, kiwi, grapefruit, pineapple, satsuma, grapes and bananas for example.  In the future we hope to be able to use home grown summer and autumn fruits.

Transport and human rights

We investigate how the food has been transported and favour shipping rather than flying.  We even consider the regime of the country of origin and where we feel that they are abusing human rights to produce their organic food we will not buy from them.  Naturally, Fairtrade organic are our choice wherever possible.  Tea and coffee nearly always is Fairtrade as well as organic.

On the farm

We are a small holding with a large garden and we are converting the land to organic.  We cannot currently offer you the products because they are not organic but we will be doing so in the future.  We have some wonderful apple varieties including some that are from Dorset.  We will have greengages, plums, damsons and cherries available in time.  A spiral herb garden is under construction.  There are even plans for a cob oven in the garden.
