Our fully organic breakfast is a special occasion.

Breakfast menu        All ingredients are organic!

Featuring wonderful Dorset organic bacon and sausages.  We have chicken and sometimes duck eggs from Bere Marsh Farm, which you can also visit, down by the River Stour.

We offer a menu with entirely organic ingredients for our guests, with produce coming from local sources.  We source biodynamic organic when we can.

Choose from Full English, French, Vegetarian, Brazilian, Japanese, Spanish, Mediterranean or Dutch.  All ingredients are organic.

If you need a gluten free breakfast please let us know.  We can usually provide this. See pancakes below!

Help yourself to cereals, yoghurt and fruit.  Or choose porridge with honey - gorgeous.  Then choose from one of the following:

English breakfast - but lots of other options too!  Pancakes, vegetarian, brazilian, mediterranean, spanish, japanese, dutch and french.

Normally we serve egg, bacon, sausage, tomato and mushroom.  We are happy to fry, poach, boil or scramble your egg.

Pancakes

Pancakes - with jam and creme fraiche, yoghurt or lemon and honey.  We can provide gluten free pancakes.

Vegetarian

Scrambled egg with tomato and mushroom.  Have some herbs if you wish.

Welsh rarebit (cheese on toast), buck rarebit (cheese on toast with a fried egg on top)

Brazilian

Rupert's sweet avocado made with creme fraiche and agave syrup

Avocado, creme fraiche and agave syrup.  This may sound crazy but it has a beautiful soft, flavour.  With Brazilian we can sometimes offer tropical fruits.  (We usually have this option in stock but it helps if you let us know in advance.)

Japanese

A dish invented by Rupert it is made from avocado, creme fraiche or yoghurt and teriyaki sauce.  With rice if you wish.

Spanish

Sarah's home made cakes

What would you imagine the typical Spanish breakfast to be?  Actually it is typically warm milk, coffee or hot chocolate, cakes and biscuits.  Sarah makes the cakes.  Please let us know in advance so Sarah can do her magic.

We currently have an Andalusian breakfast under development.  Also ask for Spanish Toast!

Mediterranean

This option is another of Rupert's inventions.  It is soldiers of home made bread fried in olive oil and garlic with pumpkin seeds alongside a fried egg.

Greek Breakfast

The greek breakfast includes greek coffee made with cardomon, rice pudding with honey and fried halloumi.  Combine the Greek with the mediterranean and have a fried egg on your halloumi on olive oil fried bread.

Tanzanian Breakfast

Porridge smothered with slices of banana, topped with honey.

Dutch breakfast (Please book in advance.  Subject to availability)

Breads, ham and cheese.

If you are looking for a Vegan option, please let us know in advance and we will see how we can help. We are not experts on vegan cooking but we are learning and welcome your suggestions.  We also keep soya milk.  We now have rice milk as well.  It is delicious.

See below for the source of products of Orchard Farmhouse Organic Bed and Breakfast.

Breakfast is cooked in our farmhouse kitchen, so you can see what you are eating, have fun selecting specials from our blackboard, make as much toast from our homemade loaves as you like, help yourself to fruit juice, yoghurts, fruit, cereals.  There is even organic tomato ketchup, brown sauce and mustard!

Organic and Biodynamic

Wherever we can we use local and if possible, biodynamic ingredients too.   The ingredients are usually to organic certification UK5 (Soil Association) or UK6 (Demeter).  The exception is that sometimes the fruit juice is to certification UK15.  Orchard Farmhouse is a certified organic caterer.

We sometimes have a French breakfast on the menu including organic croissants.

Source of products        Soil Association Organic

We buy most of our produce from Sydling Brook, which is near Cerne Abbas.  We also use Ceres in Yeovil and, where appropriate, Green Valley Farmshop in Godmanstone.   Where we need to, we back this up with products from Riverford who deliver from their Devon farm or import if absolutely necessary.  We use other local shops and sometimes we use supermarkets where they offer a product not available elsewhere.

Local and seasonal

We try and buy as much local and seasonal food as we can.  Meat comes from Sydling Brook which is only fifteen minutes from us and eggs normally come either from Sydling or Emlet (Devon).  When possible we offer a fruit salad.  Sometimes this has to have some tinned products and quite often some of the fruit does come from abroad because it includes oranges, kiwi, grapefruit, pineapple, satsuma, grapes and bananas for example.  In the future we hope to be able to use home grown summer and autumn fruits.

Transport and human rights

We investigate how the food has been transported and favour shipping rather than flying.  We even consider the regime of the country of origin and where we feel that they are abusing human rights to produce their organic food we will not buy from them.  Naturally, Fairtrade organic are our choice wherever possible.  Tea and coffee nearly always is Fairtrade as well as organic.

On the farm

We are a small holding with a large garden and we are converting the land to organic.  Some of our products are now "in conversion" - it will be a little longer for our fruit.  We have some wonderful apple varieties including some that are from Dorset.  We will have greengages, plums, damsons and cherries available in time.  A spiral herb garden has been created.
