Learn to sail!

Rupert is the principal of ABC Sailing, an RYA recognised sailing school that teaches Basic Safety and Navigation, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster theory.

Under his own name, Rupert also offers practical sailing tuition.  This can include both dinghy and yacht sailing up to a 70 foot yacht.  Rupert can also help people with motor sailing.

Typically, people come to Rupert to improve their sailing.  They may have some experience but lack confidence in certain areas.  One to one tuition is enormously helpful for these people. 

Often you go sailing with the family, but you feel like a passenger, when you want to take your turn to be skipper, or at least be able to cope if things go wrong.

Buying a boat or chartering?

Couples who are thinking of buying a boat or want to charter a yacht on holiday also come to Rupert to help them.  If you are thinking of buying a yacht, contact Rupert for advice.  He is impartial and not connected with any yacht broker.  He can help you decide which type of boat to consider because the best boat for you is the most suitable boat.  No point in buying a racing boat to go cruising.  No point in buying a deep draft vessel if you are interested in exploring creeks and rivers.

There is so much to consider with boat buying so questions like:

• should I have in mast furling?
• is a ketch a good idea?
• what sort of engine is best?
• where should I buy a boat?
• do I need a survey?
• am I being sold a pup?
• how much extra will I need to pay for equipment?
• where should I moor the boat?

are normal and to be expected.  Rupert will guide you through and provide you practical help on board, take you out to get used to the operation of the electronics and mechanical gear and show you how to keep safe, enjoy your sailing and get the best performance from the vessel.
